What you will study

What you study

The BBA at BI is a broad, flexible degree taught in English. Over three years you cover management principles and practices, market influences, operations, finance, communication and more. The first two years give you key business subjects: Marketing, Finance, Management and Accounting. You learn to analyse complex business problems from different perspectives and to cross boundaries within and between organisations.

Courses named on the programme page include Organizational Behavior and Leadership, Fundamentals of Accounting and Finance, Economics I, Business Communication - Culture and Ethics, International Commercial Law, Statistics, Mathematics, Basic Financial Management, Financial Reporting and Analysis, Research Methods and Econometrics, Marketing Management and Strategy, Economics II, Doing Sustainable Business and Performance Management. In the third year you choose a specialisation: Finance, International Business or Shipping Management. The specialisation is registered on your diploma.

How the programme is organised

The academic year is split into two semesters, autumn and spring, with exams at the end of each. The programme is 180 ECTS. Year one is 60 ECTS: in autumn you take Organizational Behavior and Leadership, Fundamentals of Accounting and Finance, Economics I and Business Communication - Culture and Ethics, each 7.5 ECTS. In spring: International Commercial Law, Statistics, Mathematics and Basic Financial Management, each 7.5 ECTS. Year two is also 60 ECTS: autumn brings Financial Reporting and Analysis, Research Methods and Econometrics, Marketing Management and Strategy and Economics II, each 7.5 ECTS. In spring you take Doing Sustainable Business and Performance Management (7.5 ECTS each) and choose 15 ECTS of electives or an internship. Year three is 30 ECTS of electives in autumn and 30 ECTS in spring, including your specialisation courses.

BI offers internships as an elective course. You choose your own company and test subjects and industry against your interests. You can also take parts of your education abroad through exchange, and pick from a number of elective courses to shape your degree.

Who it suits

This suits students who want breadth before they specialise. You get two years of core business subjects, then build your own combination through electives and a specialisation. The page describes the degree as flexible and broad, with career paths in finance, shipping or marketing. Teaching is in English and you study alongside students and lecturers from over 60 countries, so you develop an understanding of multicultural collaboration. If you are considering business and want a base for further master's studies or for work, the BBA is for you.

After year one, students who are fluent in Norwegian and can show documentation of the language requirement may apply to BI's Bachelor i økonomi og administrasjon without taking extra courses.

Admission, language and next steps

You need the general admission requirements for bachelor's programmes. If you do not meet them, BI lists options such as a Pathway to Bachelor's. The priority application deadline is 1 March for international applicants and 15 April for Norwegian applicants. BI offers rolling admission after that, based on availability, so apply within the priority deadline to be sure your application is considered. Check the programme page for the exact requirements and how to apply.

BI is a private institution and sets its own tuition fee. The fee is invoiced per semester and adjusted annually; it covers access to lectures and the standard examination fee. Different rates apply to students from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland, and certain exceptions and variations may apply. Norwegian citizens can get loans and scholarships from Lånekassen. BI also has information on scholarships and on study permits for international applicants.

After the BBA you can qualify directly for several BI master's programmes, including Master in Business, Master in Business Analytics, Master in Business Communication, Master in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Master in Finance, Master in Leadership and Organisational Psychology, Master i regnskap og revisjon and Master in Sustainable Finance. Other master's programmes may be open if you take specific electives; contact info@bi.no. BI reserves the right to change admission requirements for its master's programmes.
