What you will study

What you study

NTNU's Master's in Project Management is an international programme that builds your understanding of engineering project management. You look at both international and Norwegian management standards and procedures. The programme trains students from engineering and the sciences to lead projects in different industries.

You choose one of three engineering tracks: Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Production & Quality Engineering. The first year has six compulsory courses (45 ECTS) and two engineering courses (15 ECTS). In the third semester you take one elective engineering course (7.5 ECTS), an engineering specialisation project (15 ECTS), and one mandatory specialisation track course (7.5 ECTS). The fourth semester is entirely for your individual master's thesis (30 ECTS).

How the programme is organised

The degree is a full-time, two-year Master's worth 120 ECTS. Teaching is in English, and all course materials are in English. The programme is small, so there is more discussion and dialogue between faculty and students. It organises excursions, company visits, and guest lectures in project management, and you are encouraged to join. Students have their own reading rooms and organise social gatherings. Trondheim is good for sports and outdoor activities.

Who it suits

This programme suits you if you have a Bachelor's degree with at least a C average and want to lead engineering projects. For the Master of Engineering (sivilingeniør) route, you need a Bachelor of Engineering or an equivalent degree in a specialised technical field, with at least a C average. For the Master in Project Management route, you need a Bachelor's degree with at least a C average, including at least 80 ECTS from relevant fields such as sciences (mathematics/statistics, physics, chemistry, geology, biology), computer science (informatics, programming, cybersecurity), or engineering/technology. You need strong fluency in English.

Before you apply

Master’s applications go straight to Norwegian University of Science and Technology, not through the national admission service (NUCAS). Study in Norway states that you need a bachelor’s degree comparable to a Norwegian bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS), including courses equal to at least one and a half years of full-time study relevant to the programme. Deadlines are set by each institution for each programme, so confirm yours. Entry requirements and language tests are also set by the institution, so start from the official programme page. Our guides cover tuition fees, study permits and housing.

Facts on this page come from the Study in Norway register, the official English-programme list run by HK-dir, the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills. Fees are in NOK as the institution lists them. "Not listed" means the register has no figure, not that the programme is free. Always confirm requirements, fees and deadlines with the institution.
