About Kristiania University College

Kristiania University College is a private institution in Oslo, organised through the Ernst G. Mortensen foundation. It also has a campus in Bergen and offers programmes online. The name comes from Oslo's previous name, Kristiania. The Oslo campus is spread over several buildings in the city centre, including Kvadraturen, Urtegata, Fjerdingen and Spikersuppa, while the Bergen campus sits at Kalfarveien.

The institution began in 1914, when Ernst G. Mortensen launched Norsk Korrespondenceskole and taught through correspondence courses. His aim was to make education available to everyone, wherever they lived, and the school grew from 125 students to 9 000 by 1929. In 2016 several colleges merged into one entity under the Kristiania name: Markedshøyskolen, Norges Kreative Høyskole, Norges Helsehøyskole, NKS Nettstudier and Høyskolen Campus Kristiania. The architectural firm Snøhetta worked on the new visual identity, and Westerdals Oslo School of Arts, Communication and Technology joined the foundation in 2017. As of 2022 the institution has around 19 000 students.

Teaching covers communication, management, marketing, finance, innovation, technology, art, design and media. The student union, SHK, is independent and run by and for students, and its job is to make student opinions heard by the board and the wider community.

The Study in Norway list shows 9 English-taught degree programmes here: 2 bachelor's degrees, 6 master's degrees and 1 one-year programme. Subjects on the list are humanities and theology, data science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, computer science and IT, information systems, and business administration. NOKUT categorises the institution as a university college, or university of applied sciences, and the DBH register lists it as a private høyskole owned by Kunnskapsdepartementet.

For an international student, applications go through the institution's own system rather than a national portal. Students from outside the EU/EEA need a study permit from UDI. EU/EEA and Swiss students are normally exempt from tuition at state institutions, but Kristiania is private, so check its fee rules for your programme before you apply.
