About Nord University

Nord University is a state university with its main campuses in Bodø, the capital of Nordland county, and Levanger on the Trondheim Fjord. It also has study locations in Mo i Rana, Namsos, Nesna, Sandnessjøen, Steinkjer, Stjørdalshalsen and Vesterålen, spread across Nordland and Trøndelag. The name comes from the Norwegian word for north, a nod to its focus on northern regions.

The university took its current form on 1 January 2016, after a resolution by the King-in-Council. It is the successor of the University of Nordland, Nesna University College and Nord-Trøndelag University College. Those colleges grew out of teacher training institutions, including Levanger Teachers' College, which itself followed Klæbu Teacher's College. That teacher-training thread still runs through the institution today.

Teaching is organised into faculties: Biosciences and Aquaculture, Education and Arts, Nursing and Health Sciences, Social Science, and the Business School. The university describes a focus on blue and green growth, innovation and entrepreneurship, and on welfare, health and education. It offers 180 programmes across academic and professional studies, including aquaculture, sociology, business education, nurse education and teacher education. It is a member of the University of the Arctic and takes part in the north2north exchange programme.

The Study in Norway list shows 12 English-taught degree programmes here: 6 bachelor's degrees, 4 master's degrees and 2 one-year programmes. Subjects on the list include area studies, humanities and theology, biology, science, game development, animal science, social sciences and psychology, and hospitality and tourism. Most programmes at the university are taught in Norwegian, so the English list is the place to start if you do not speak Norwegian.

For an international student, applications go through the institution's own system. Students from outside the EU/EEA need a study permit from UDI. EU/EEA and Swiss students are normally exempt from tuition at state institutions, while other degree students pay an institutional fee. Check the university's pages for the details that apply to your situation before you apply.
